Meta finally announces long-awaited facebook feature, “Like-Likes”

Meta’s newest feature allows users to express approval for other users’ expressions of approval, with the company’s internal testing revealing that 73% of beta participants spent their entire day exclusively liking likes rather than engaging with any actual content. The feature, which displays as a tiny thumbs-up icon beneath each existing like, has already generated over 2.8 billion like-likes in its first hour of global rollout, crashing servers in three data centers.

The innovation addresses what Meta’s Vice President of Engagement Metrics Jennifer Walsh called “the critical gap in our approval ecosystem.” Walsh explained that focus groups consistently reported feeling unable to adequately express their enthusiasm for particularly well-received likes, especially those garnering over 500 reactions. The feature includes advanced algorithms that determine like-like eligibility based on the original like’s timestamp, the liker’s relationship to the post author, and current atmospheric pressure readings.

Early adopters have discovered that like-likes can themselves be liked, creating cascading chains of approval that company engineers are monitoring through a newly established Department of Recursive Validation. Several users have reported becoming trapped in infinite like-like loops, with their accounts automatically generating thousands of micro-approvals per second until their phones overheat. Meta’s customer service department has received 847 requests for like-like removal, though the company maintains that the feature cannot be disabled once activated.

The rollout has prompted three competing social media platforms to announce their own approval-of-approval features, scheduled for release before the end of the fiscal quarter. At press time, Meta was reportedly developing “Like-Like-Likes” after internal data showed users attempting to double-tap the like-like buttons over 12 million times in the past six hours.
