SPRINGFIELD, IL — In a stunning act of bravery that has left the internet reeling, local Facebook user Kevin Dunlap took to social media Wednesday to make a shocking confession: McDonald’s is not, in fact, gourmet cuisine.
“I just have to say it,” Dunlap wrote in his 367-word status update. “McDonald’s is fine for a quick bite, but let’s be honest—this isn’t fine dining. It’s not gourmet. And I don’t care who gets mad about it.”
The post, which immediately ignited a firestorm of debate among his 234 friends and their extended networks, has been described by some as “the single bravest thing anyone has ever said on Facebook.” Others, however, were quick to challenge Dunlap’s bold stance.
“Bro, have you even had the McRib?” wrote local man Kyle Tanner, who lists “Fast Food Connoisseur” as one of his official job titles. “That’s seasonal cuisine. That’s exclusive. That’s gourmet, my guy.”
Another user, Janice Fletcher, fired back with an impassioned 300-word comment detailing the handcrafted nature of McDonald’s burgers, citing their “curated sauce blends” and “artistically melted cheese,” before concluding with, “Some of us have TASTE, Kevin.”
Despite the backlash, Dunlap stood firm, later clarifying his position in a follow-up post: “I’m not saying McDonald’s is bad, I’m just saying it’s not in the same category as a five-star restaurant. You don’t see Gordon Ramsay plating up a Filet-O-Fish.”
His bravery has since earned him comparisons to historical truth-tellers, with one commenter referring to him as “the Galileo of fast food discourse.”
In response to the controversy, McDonald’s issued a vague but ominous corporate statement:
“We hear our customers. We see their passion. And we remain committed to redefining what gourmet truly means… on our terms.”
The statement was followed by a cryptic image of Ronald McDonald staring directly into the camera, holding a fork and knife.
At press time, Dunlap was reportedly considering another courageous act of truth-telling: admitting that Little Caesars pizza is not “New York-style.”
